Visit to Town hall

E-mail Print PDF

On Monday the 19th April the cubs visited Eastbourne Town Hall. They were shown around by the Mayor & Mayoress in person. The tour included the wedding room, councillors meeting room and the Mayors parlour.

There was also a question and answer session with the Mayor & Mayoress, the cubs were keen to know who would win the election, how many cleaners were at the Town Hall, was being Mayor a hard job and is it fun!

At the end of the visit we were invited to sign the guestbook.

Cubs rescue Explorer in dramatic golf course fall

E-mail Print PDF

Whilst on an evening out at the local Coastguard station, a call came in that an Explorer scout had gone walking over the golf course at Princes Park and had fallen six feet down a slope and was in need of rescuing. Without a moment to lose the cubs donned their rescue equipment and went out with the Coastguards to search for the missing Explorer.

Using high powered flashlights they eventually found the Explorer at the bottom of a slope on the golf course. The casualty seemed unresponsive at first but aren't most Explorers anyway?

After some gentle persuasion, well being prodded, from the Cubs the Explorer made a miraculous recovery and only suffered from bruised pride.

Well done Cubs!

Big Hike II

E-mail Print PDF

What a GREAT day! Some of our young people, leaders and parents, took up the gauntlet to hike and raise funds for the group, and our Scout trip to Austria.

The Scouts, and adult leaders, Robert, Niel, Marc, Nic, Gary, Carla, Simon, and Julian walked 9 miles from Butts Brow to Abbots Wood. At 3 mile intervals they were joined by other sections from the group.

At Wilmington Priory they were joined by the Cub Section, where they then hiked to Arlington Reservoir, they were then joined by the Beaver Colony, Edie, Jenny, and some Beaver parents for the final leg!

Whilst conditions remained dry, it was heavy going with mud under foot and a strong wind, I am pleased to say that all members of the group made it to the final destination safely, if not a little tired and very muddy!

My Thanks go to all the leaders, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and parents that took part in this worthwhile adventure!

An extra special well done to the 2 Cubs that hiked the whole nine miles, well done Nathanael and Benjamin!!!

Photo's of the event can be found in the Group section of the photo gallery section of the website. If you are a parent you will need to register to see them!

The 11th Eastbourne Add a New String to Their Bow!

E-mail Print PDF

Scouting is always about pushing the boundaries and offering new experiences to our young people, that they wouldn't get in everyday life!

Last year we applied and sucessfully won a grant from the 'ESCC Youthbank Scheme'. After consulting with all the young people in the group Archery was decided as an activity they would like to have available to them.

We have now purchased bows and arrows, paid for a range to be built at Bushy Wood, and subsidised training for leaders for their GNAS qualification.

I would like to thank Carla, Simon, Robert, Edie, and Nicola for giving up thier weekends in Feburary to achieve this qualification, so we can offer this great new activity to all our young people in the group.

2010 - Eastbourne Scouting Centenary

E-mail Print PDF

2010 is the centenary of Scouting in Eastbourne !

To celebrate the 100th birthday of scouting in Eastbourne there will be a large jamboree style camp in June where the whole disitrict will camp together, enjoying a range of activities and celebrations.

Each section in the group will be 'weaving' the centenary theme into their programmes, so it promises to be a special year.
